B rinda fell in love with the quirky concept that Gunny Muralidhar came up with. She stitched a compelling story reflecting Gunny’s concept and created intriguing characters. She wrote the humorous, pun filled and poignant dialogues of Knot Not! and directed the film.
B rinda comes from a family of theatre artists and filmmakers from the beautiful city of Mysore in India. Her father Ramachandra Rao was a playwright and director, whose inspiration was his older brother M.V.Narayan Rao, a celebrated theatre and cinema artist and a film producer. Her father, an outstanding story teller, often took a guy from the neighbourhood, trained and transformed him to play a series of amazing characters on stage.
G rowing up in this environment, Brinda, in her teens, became involved in a progressive theatre group called Samudaya founded by Prasanna, the former Principal of the National School of Drama (NSD), Delhi. She has worked under many stalwarts of Kannada theatre. She was a drama artist at All India Radio, Mysore and over the years claims quite a few accolades on stage and on air.
S he married Gunny Muralidhar a passionate theatre and film enthusiast whom she met in Samudaya.
W ith over 25 years of acting experience in mainstream theatre in India and Canada, Brinda started KalaaRanga Performing Arts a not-for-profit theatre company in Greater Toronto Area (GTA). She wrote and directed over 14 stage productions in Kannada, English, Hindi, ranging from quirky one-act plays to riveting dramas to choreographed Bollywood Musicals. Each presentation in a variety of style and genre has earned her tremendous appreciation from the GTA and North American audience.
H er fascination for screen medium started in 2006. Since then she has created and directed several TV commercials, short films, and a documentary.
I n 2013 Brinda started her independent film production company 1CanMedia Creations with a vision to produce meaningful cinema, documentaries, television shows, web-series. The evolution of Knot Not! began in December 2013.
I t is Brinda’s fervent endeavour to discover local talent, create a platform to showcase their artistry and contribute to GTA’s growing film Industry.
